How to fit hinges onto a box lid

To perfectly fit hinges onto a box you must first place markings on the box with a pen knife to show where you want the hinges, when using screws avoid brass screws because they are soft and prone to breaking. Align the hinges perfectly to to back of the box using a clamp to keep them together and plan where you want them.  Use a router to set the depth for the hinges on the box, once you have the depth set place the hinges on the knuckles of the box and screw them in.img_0020

img_0009For my first completed 20 time project I created a model guillotine. This was created out of balsa wood and hot glue. I built this by measuring cuts and then cutting out pieces of wood with a jigsa. Once all,of the desired pieces were measured and cut I assmebled them with hot glue. I started with glueing the supports of the structure to the base, then I cut out stairs that led up to the platform on which the guillotine would be. Once the stairs and platform were in place I started the guillotine itself, I glued three pices of wood together with a space in between so that a piece of wood could slide in between.

Classroom Technology Trends (3-D printing)

download-6download-4download-1

One of the most prevalent and interesting technological classroom trends is 3-D Printing. This is a relatively new component in schools due to its cost. However they may be less costly than first thought. Teachers all over American High Schools  are finding ways to cost effectively acquire 3-D printers. Online shopping sites are a great place to start on the search for a printer. But other schools have implemented fund raisers to raise money for the 3-D printers. Teachers in Texas have been using a site called https://www.donorschoose.org/ . another more cost effective alternative to 3-D printers is 3-D designing pens. In any case, the world of  3-D printing devices is vast and rewarding.

Lumber cuts

There are three ways to separate fresh lumber 1. Plain sawn, which is several cuts through the tree horizontally to get straight pieces of lumber 2. Rift saw, is a process of cutting the tree into quarters, then slicing out from outside to in at all angles 3. Quarter saw, which is cutting into quarters and cutting outside to in in a straight line every cut.
